ウィーンにて英語論文の書き方ワークショップに参加しました
自分にとって英語での論文を書くことはまだチャレンジングで、今一つ踏み切れない状況でした。今回、ISPIM2009の事前プログラムとして、「英語論文の書き方」というワークショップが、6月20日、21日と開催されていたので、「ちょうど良い！」と思って、ちょっと高かったけど参加してきました。
このワークショップは、"Pre-Conference Workshop: How to Write Academic Papers for Publication" というタイトルで、ウィーン大学のキャンパスで開催されました。http://conference.ispim.org/files/Workshop_Writing_ISPIM09.pdf に詳細のパンフレットがあります。

This workshop, led by Dr. Eelko Huizingh, University of Groningen, is intended for PhD students and junior faculty only and an additional charge of € 450 applies (€ 350 for ISPIM conference delegates). トピックとしては、以下の内容を扱っていました。
The benefits of writing papers and the relation between a dissertation and a paper.
- Translating a research project into one or more papers.
- The process of writing and how to become a good writer?
- Structuring a paper – the generic building blocks of academic papers.
- Finding a fitting research question and positioning the paper.
- The introduction: status, objective and structure.
- Presenting the literature review, research design and results.
- Identifying managerial implications, limitations and avenues for further research.
- The discussion and conclusions: determining the takeaways of the paper.
- Listing the authors: who are the authors and in which order?
- Selecting an appropriate journal: finding the fit between the paper’s topic and contribution, the focus and level of various journals, and your institution’s interests.
- Submitting the paper.
- The review process.
- Dealing with reviews.
結論から言うと、このワークショップは、極めてインテンシブで、多数の「学び」がありました。私自身、英語論文を書くための基礎を学べましたし、何よりも日本語論文と英語論文の流儀の明確な違いが良く分かりました。教材も良くできています。このワークショップを受けて、英語でも論文書けるな、という自信を持つことができました。
日本での論文指導がいかに国際ジャーナルの論文の基準と違うものであるかが良く分かります。おそらく日本の研究者にとって知らないことを沢山学べるんじゃないかと思います。
さて、このワークショップ、Dr. Eelko Huizinghが主催していますが、世界中にこのワークショップを展開していきたいとのこと。日本での展開も興味あるとのことです。もちろん、ビジネスベースでの交渉になりますが。
Dr. Eelko Huizinghにパーティでお会いしたときに、「もし私が日本での開催のホスト先を見つけたら、そのかわり無料で私の論文の添削をしてくれますか？」とnegotiationしてみまたところ、お互いに、"best effortで"ということになりました。
このワークショップを日本で開催するには当然予算が必要になりますが、昨今で言えばグローバルCOEの予算を使って、日本に招聘するのは現実的にありうるんじゃないかと思います。
